VERACRUZ(EN) >2009 > G 3.8 DOHC > Body Electrical System > Power Tail Gate System>B1580 Ignition start switch short to battery
Component Location

General Description
Power Tailgate(hereinafter PTG) is the system which moves tailgate of vehicle by electronic motor so that user can open or close door with less force than required on manual operation. After turned on, PTG ECU monitors vehicle speed signal from VSS directly. When power gate open signal is recieved, PTG ECU checks vehicle speed before operation and if vehicle speed is above 5Km/h(3.10MPH), PTG ECU cancels power gate operation command for safty (but In case of IG "ON", if shift lever is in 'P' or 'N' position, power door operation is not prohibited)

Schematic Diagram

Monitor DTC Status
1.
Connect scantool to Data Link Connector(DLC).
2.
Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF" & PTG "ON"
3.
Selet "Diagnostic Trouble Codes(DTCs)"mode and monitor "DTC Status" parameter.

4.
Is the DTC B1580 present?

▶ Go to "Inspection & Repair" procedure.

▶ Fault is intermittent caused by poor contact in the sensor's and/or ECM's connector or was repaired and ECM memory was not cleared. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Terminal And Connector Inspection
1.
Many malfunctions in the electrical system are caused by poor harness and terminals.
Faults can also be caused by interference from other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical damage.
2.
Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage.
3.
Has a problem been found?

▶ Repair as necessary and go to "Verification Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Go to "W/Harness Inspection" procedure.

Signal Circuit Inspection
1.
Check for short in IGN S/W → IPM signal harness
(1)
Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF".
(2)
Disconnect "I/P-C" connector.
(3)
Turn the "IG KEY" to "START" and Check the voltage between starting signal of "I/P-C" and chassis ground.

Specification : IGN "STARTING" → 12V

(4)
Is the measured voltage within specifications?

▶ Go to "Check Signal short" procedure.

▶ Check for short to battery in signal harness. Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

2.
Check Signal short
(1)
Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF"
(2)
Check the resistance between starting signal terminal of "I/P-C" and starting signal terminal of "PTG" module.

Specification : 0 Ω

(3)
Is the measured resistance within specifications?

▶ Go to "Check IPM" procedure.

▶ Check for short to battery in signal harness. Repair as necessary and go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

3.
Check IPM
(1)
Connect scantool to Data Link Connector(DLC).
(2)
Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF"
(3)
Substitute with a known-good IPM and Check if the DTC is erased.
(4)
Is the DTC erased?

▶ Substitute with a known-good IPM and check for proper operation.
If the problem is corrected, replace IPM and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Go to "Check PTG" procedure.

4.
Check PTG
(1)
Connect scantool to Data Link Connector(DLC).
(2)
Ignition "ON" & engine "OFF"
(3)
Substitute with a known-good PTG and Check if the DTC is erased.
(4)
Is the DTC erased?

▶ Substitute with a known-good PTG and check for proper operation.
If the problem is corrected, replace PTG and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

▶ Check connectors for looseness, poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to "Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.

Verification Of Vehicle Repair
After a repair, it is essential to verify that the fault has been corrected.
1.
Connect scantool and selet "Diagnostic Trouble Codes(DTCs)" mode and then clear DTC.
2.
Operate the vehicle and monitor the DTC on the scantool.
3.
Are any DTCs present ?

▶ Go to the applicable troubleshooting procedure.

▶ System is performing to specification at this time.
