Power Tail
Gate(hereinafter PTG) is the system which moves tail gate of vehicle by
electronic motor so that user can open or close door with less force than
required on manual operation. PTG consists of drive unit, handle, switch,
warning buzzer, anti pinch(right/left) and cinch/latch(2 switch each).
Drive unit is located at left D pillar (quater panel). It is core part of
PTG that drives leg which is connected with push rod by force of motor to
move tail gate. beside that Drive unit consists of PTG ECU, motor, push
rod, channel, clutch and two optical sensor When power gate open signal is
recieved, PTG ECU operates motor of drive unit and pinion gear transmits
drive force of motor into an up-and-down motion of leg. according to
motion of leg, push rod move vertically to move gate. Optical sensor
monitors these system operation and delivers it to PTG ECU.
The ECM sets DTC B2422
if there's short to ground in door motor harness.

▶ Fault is
intermittent caused by poor contact in the sensor's and/or
ECM's connector or was repaired and ECM memory was not
cleared. Thoroughly check connectors for looseness, poor
connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration,
or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to
"Verification of Vehicle Repair" procedure.
|

|
▶ Go to
"Inspection & Repair"
procedure.

Terminal And Connector
Inspection |
1. |
Many malfunctions in the electrical system are
caused by poor harness and terminals.
Faults can also be caused by interference from
other electrical systems, and mechanical or chemical
damage. |
2. |
Thoroughly check connectors for looseness,
poor connection, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration,
or damage. |
3. |
Has a problem been found?

|
▶ Repair as
necessary and go to "Verification Vehicle Repair"
procedure.
|

|
▶ Go to
"W/Harness Inspection"
procedure.
|
|
1. |
Ignition "OFF" & engine

2. |
Disconnect "PTG MOTOR" and "PTG module"
connector. |
3. |
Measure resistance between terminal of PTG and
terminal of door motor.
Specification
: Approx. 0 Ω
| |
4. |
Is the measured resistance within
specifications?

|
▶ Go to
"Component Inspection" procedure.
|

|
▶ Check for
open in power harness. Repair as necessary and go to
"Verification of Vehicle Repair"
procedure.

|
1. |
Check the "PTG MOTOR"
(1) |
Ignition "ON" & engine
"OFF" |
(2) |
Disconnect door
motor. |
(3) |
Connect (+) terminal of battery to#1
terminal of door motor and (-) terminal to #2 terminal of door
motor. |
(4) |
Connect (+) terminal of battery to #2
terminal of door motor and (-) terminal to #1 terminal of door
motor. |
(5) |
Dose the door motor work
properly?

|
▶
Check connectors for looseness, poor connection,
bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, or
damage. Repair or replace as necessary and then go to
"PTG module inspection" procedure.
|

|
▶
Substitute with a known-good drive unit and check for
proper operation. If the
problem is corrected, replace drive unit and then go to
"Verification of Vehicle Repair"
procedure. ※ It is impossible
to change door motor separately. So it is changed by
drive unit when change is
necessary.
|
| |
2. |
Check the "PTG module"
(1) |
Ignition "ON" & engine
"OFF" |
(2) |
Disconnect door
motor. |
(3) |
Push the "CLOSE" switch and then measure
the voltage between "CLOSE" terminal of "PTG module" and
chassis ground. |
(4) |
Push the "OPEN" switch and then measure
the voltage between "OPEN" terminal of "PTG module" and
chassis ground.
Specification :
Approx.1~9V

Verification Of Vehicle
Repair |
After a repair, it is
essential to verify that the fault has been corrected.
1. |
Connect scantool and selet "Diagnostic Trouble
Codes(DTCs)" mode and then clear
DTC. |
2. |
Operate the vehicle and monitor the DTC on the
scantool. |
3. |
Are any DTCs present ?

|
▶ Go to the
applicable troubleshooting procedure.
|

|
▶ System is
performing to specification at this
time.
